The
doctors at Atlantic Surgical are presently coordinating a partnership
with Portsmouth Regional Hospital for a future Breast Center.
All
three surgeons are members of the American Society of Breast Surgeons.
They are all trained in ultrasound breast examination and biopsy. In
the Breast Center they will have an on-site ultrasound machine for immediate
examinations and ultrasound guided mammotome and core needle biopsies,
when indicated.
This
Breast Center hopes to encompass the ability of routine mammography
with a daily on-site radiologist and diagnostic biopsies in combination
with an on-site surgeon. By having both radiologic and surgical specialties
at the center, we hope to decrease the time frame from the findings
of a breast abnormality to biopsy and definitive diagnosis of this abnormality.
Dr.
Gens and Dr. Looser were pioneers in bringing surgical stereotactic
biopsy of nonpalpable breast lesions to the Seacoast. They were instrumental
in training other surgeons on the Seacoast in these techniques. They
were also the first to bring sentinal node biopsy techniques to the
Seacoast. Their practice is unique in being the only surgical practice
that offers in-office ultasound guided mammotome biopsies.
